We have all thought about which Guinness World Record we could break, and we are curious about which are the craziest records, right? Well, today we will briefly tour the most foodie Guinness Records in Latin America.
COLOMBIA GUINNESS WORLD RECORD.
World’s heaviest mango found in Colombia: A Colombian farmer family broke the record in 2021 Germán Orlando Novoa Barrera and Reina Maria Marroquín, in Guayatá in the Boyaca department. According to Official Web page, ‘The impressive mango weighed in at 4.25 kilograms (9.36 lb) and was certified as an official Guinness World Records title. The previous record was held by a mango found in the Philippines that weighed 3.435 kilograms (7.57 lb) in 2009’. After being documented for the record, the family celebrated by sharing and eating the entire mango.
Largest anisette tasting event:
Aguardiente is one of the typical liquors in Colombia, this drink is a distillate of an alcoholic fermented of some plants rich in sucrose. Its etymological origin is of Latin origin and means “alcoholic beverage obtained from distillation. Its lexical components are ‘aqua’ (water), ‘ardere’ (to burn), plus the suffix ente (present participle agent). However, it is also said that the name is due to the sensation when ingested. The event was back in Juli 2015 in Bogotá, at one of the most famous hotels in the city The Tequendama Suits, the event involved 257 participants.
This is the second time that Sociedad Colombiana de Ciencias Químicas has achieved a Guinness World Records title. The five different types of Colombian anisette that were tasted were Aguardiente Tapa Roja, Aguardiente Llanero, Aguardiente Nectar Club, Aguardiente Bicentenario de Cundinamarca and Aguardiente Blanco del Valle ICE. Colombia breaks two Guinness World Records titles; the largest cup of coffee and the largest coffee tasting in the world.
The event took place in Chinchina Caldas, which belongs to the coffee-growing region par excellence. In the central plaza of the municipality the previously manufactured cup was placed, where 22,379 liters of hot coffee were stored. One of the requirements for the challenge was a minimum of 739 people to taste the hot coffee, however, the number was doubled, breaking a new record with the largest coffee tasting in the world.
MEXICO GUINNESS WORLD RECORD.
Largest shrimp cocktail made in Mexico:
The Guinness World Record was broken in February 2023 in Mazatlan, also known as “La Perla del Pacifico” (The Pearl of the Pacific). is located in Sinaloa, on the Pacific coast. The preparation time for the record was approximately 9 months and was in charge of Tres Islas and the Hotel Association of the city. The weigth was 1.075 kg about 50,000 shrimp. The last record was broken by Mazatlan as well back in 2011, with about 675 kg. The recipe has changed to stick to the international standard with orange, pineapple and cold.
Largest serving of guacamole record broken in Mexico:
More than 815 people helped prepare the guacamole, including several dozen culinary students. It is estimated that cooks used around 25,200 avocados, 3,500 tomatoes, 3,000 lemons, 750 onions and 90 bundles of cilantro/coriander to make the giant dip.
Aram Cortes a Mexican Artist has designed the container where the 4,972kg of guacamole was served. This same Guinness Record was achieved in another municipality of Tancítaro in Michoacán in Mexico in 2013 with half the weight 2,669.5kg.
According to Efe Antonio Curto Ptofessor of Escuela Culinaria Internacional from Jalisco,and one of the main chefs of the Guinness Record, it is necessary to take two factors into account for the success of guacamole. The first, the state of maturity of the fruit, and the second, the order of the ingredients to prevent oxidation of the main ingredient, according to the chef’s recommendation should be placed first all the avocado pulp and lemon to prevent oxidation, and then the onion, tomato, and cilantro, seasoned with salt.
